Is Weight-Loss Surgery an Option for You?

For many, surgery is the best hope for a healthy weight

Weight loss can be a life-long battle. For people who struggle with obesity and have made serious attempts at weight loss through diet and exercise, weight loss surgery could be an option. Surgery is a major decision, and it is not an immediate or quick-fix solution. Our caring physicians are dedicated to helping patients live a healthy life.

Losing weight can mean losing the bad effects, too.

Many people know that obesity can be linked to depression and high blood pressure. But it can also be connected to infertility, sleep apnea, diabetes, and osteoarthritis. Surgical weight loss can help to prevent other illnesses that harm your health in addition to putting you on track to achieving your weight goals.

These conditions mean you could qualify for surgery:

  • Body mass index (BMI) of greater than 40
  • A BMI of greater than 35, combined with other obesity-related health issues
  • Traditional weight loss programs, diet, and exercise have been unsuccessful
  • Commitment to healthy lifestyle changes after surgery
  • For lap band surgery only – a BMI of 30 or higher, combined with at least one obesity-related health issue

Minimally invasive surgery. Life-changing results

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
RYGB restricts food intake and decreases the absorption of food. The creation of a small pouch that excludes most of the stomach and other parts of the digestive tract re-routes food directly into the small intestine.

Adjustable Gastric Band
The AGB is a small, bracelet-like band placed around the top of the stomach to decrease food intake. A circular balloon inside the band can be inflated or deflated with saline solution to change the size of the opening.

Gastric Sleeve
A GS procedure is when a surgeon creates a small, sleeve-shaped stomach about the size of a banana. A GS processed may by the first step in a two-part treatment when a gastric bypass is to be performed later.
